If you have not gotten a new mattress in the last eight years, it is time to replace your old mattress. Over time dust mites, skin cells, sweat and other unpleasant things can collect and settle in your mattress, making it a breeding ground for bacteria. Yuck! The reason why people do not replace their mattresses as often as they should is because it can be overwhelming to try to find the right mattress. What should you even consider when looking for a new mattress?

The number one most important thing when picking out a mattress is finding the right level of firmness! Some people like their mattress more firm and some like it softer, and often times trying to get used to a firmness level that you are not used can make sleeping very difficult. Everyone is different, so what works for your back might be very painful for someone else to sleep on night after night. This can be a very difficult issue to deal with if your significant other likes their mattress firmer or softer than you do. In this case, it is important to find a compromise that will work for both of you!

Height of your mattress may not seem like an important feature, but for disabled or elderly people this can be a very important thing to consider. Some mattresses have thicker box springs or cushiony pillow tops, which will increase the overall height. Anyone with mobility issues needs to make sure that the mattress they are purchasing will allow them to easily get in and out of their bed without the risk of falling.

Memory Foam or Not?
Many people think that spending the extra money for a memory foam mattress will make it easier for them to sleep, and a lot times that is the case. However, if you routinely do other things on your bed like work on your laptop, watch TV or eat, having a memory foam mattress may not be ideal because it often does not provide enough support to sit upright comfortably for long periods of time. For this reason, college students often want to stay away from memory foam mattresses.

High-end mattresses can get quite pricy! If you are on a budget, consider going down to your local mattress or home store, like Crowley Furniture Mattress Store, to look for a deal. Often times you can great discounts on holidays like President’s Day, Labor Day, Independence Day and Memorial Day to make your dream mattress a reality.

Delivery and Removal
Some mattress stores will offer specials where they will deliver your mattress for free or remove your old mattress for free. These are ways that you can save money and make buying a new mattress more convenient.
